A Hat is Merely a Crown That Lets No Rain in

hat

Far from being a talented tailor, I had the idea to make a hat by myself. Also because they are quite expensive if you want a good one. All you need is about 10 Euros, an old sweat-shirt and some patience. There are many ways how to make a hat. This is how I did it.

Rockscape 2016

minaspiler

Banská Bystrica is definitely one of the most beautiful cities of Slovakia. Located in the very centre of the country the city became prosperous through copper mining in the late Middle Ages. Its beautiful buildings and façades in the old town attract lots of visitors every year.

From 24th to 25th of June 2016 the Rockscape festival was organised for the fourth time in the amphitheatre of this picturesque place. When I looked at this year’s line-up, two bands caught my attention: The Last Days of Jesus (Slovakia) and Laibach (Slovenia). Read More →

Stories Around Music

volkova-postcard

Founded in 2013, it didn’t take the Argentinian duo Vólkova a long time to become part of the peak in alternative electronic music. Also in Europe they gained foot easily, proven by a successful tour in 2014. In 2015 the duo will have concerts all around Europe again. On the ridge between minimal wave, industrial and electroclash Vólkova are critically acclaimed throughout the continent – which they very well deserve!

Vólkova are Paula Lazzarino (vocals and lyrics) and Cesar Canali (music). During a nice little talk Paula and Cesar revealed some facts of their band’s history, why they have a connection to Slovenia and how they like it in Europe. Read More →

A Musical Review of 2014

review2014_intro

Almost exactly two years ago this page went online. To be honest, I didn’t know in which direction this whole thing would go, but shortly after it turned out that there IS an interest in what I am writing about. My readership is growing steadily and many musicians are writing to me to introduce and discuss their music. I want to thank you very much for your attention! 🙂

While Central Europe is covered with snow these days I fled the cold and am sitting now at a sunny beach in Bodrum, Turkey. Before enjoying the dolce vita too much I am compiling a musical review of 2014 for you.

For alternative/dark music 2014 was another great year.  Instead of the usual 10 songs I will present you 11 (because I couldn’t decide), which were released in 2014 – in no particular order. Read More →

An Alternative Christmas Playlist 2014

zmaj

Remember my last year’s alternative Christmas playlist? If you don’t, you can look it up here. The idea of this playlist was born out of the necessity to escape the so-called “Christmas songs”. They ambush the unaware and innocent individual, to manifest themselves in the brains of their hosts. Let’s see if I am able to find another ten songs which serve as an enjoyable and appropriate alternative to the generic Christmas songs. Read More →

XIII Wroclaw Industrial Festival

Wrocław Industrial Festival 2014

After an endless car ride we eventually arrived in Wrocław, the capital of Lower Silesia, Poland. Uncountable times I have spent here, made some dear friends and it appears that behind every street corner, below every tree I can find pieces of memories and stories of my personal history with this city. This time I came here because of the Wrocław Industrial Festival, organized this year already for the 13th time. Read More →

Fresh Music Supply

ashcode-live

Lately I have been quite busy and didn’t find much time to write some articles on theses pages. This shall change now. Finally, I owe you some news on music.

Firstly, Hungarian minimal wave artist Ádám Bérces, Slovakian goth-punks Hysteric Helen finally released their debut albums. I am already quite busy writing some reviews and will keep you, of course, informed, when they will be published.

Minimal artist ZX Electric released his second album Fixed Unknown, a review on this you can find here. Italian darkwavers Christine Plays Viola were also busy and revealed to us their new masterpiece Vacua.

In the following I will present you some new singles and bands, which you might enjoy. Read More →

A Musical Review of 2013

review2014

Another year is almost over, with all its highs and lows. Lou Reed and Nelson Mandela died, there’s a new pope, in Turkey and Ukraine people go on the streets to protest against their governments and Russia does everything to reload the Cold War. But enough about politics.

This page almost has its first birthday, the blog went online on January 2nd 2013. In the last year the page almost got 20.000 views and has an average of 53 visitors per day, which is a great outcome. I want to thank the musicians, artists and writers, who helped me make this project real, and, of course, my friends and readers for their interest, inspiration and support. savetier.eu is a non-profit site (maybe once I will place ads/banners somewhere, but for now I don’t know where they would fit and they are mostly ugly).

This year again I prepared a list of 10 great songs that were released in 2013. As always in no particular order. Read More →

The Sounds of Romania

transsylvania_sun

Why is it that people from Western and Central Europe tend to over-see Eastern Europe? Is it the languages? In this English-dominated world many are less exposed to Eastern European languages. People seeking the exotic go far away to Africa and Southern America, but have maybe never been to Poland, Romania, Slovakia etc. But these countries are everything else than grey and boring.

A few months ago I have been the first time to Romania, namely in the cities of Suceava (Bucovina) and Cluj Napoca (Transsylvania). It was a very nice experience to finally visit the place, about which I have read lots of books during my whole life.

Regarding Romanian new wave music I was a complete newbie. Something I intend to change hereby. I researched what the Romanian music scene has to offer and was quite surprised by the amount of great bands. Ten of these bands especially caught my attention and shall be presented in the following.  Read More →
